| Description | Qty | Rate | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| Half-day labor minimum (up to 4 hours) | 1 | $220.00 | $220.00 |
| Additional labor beyond minimum, door adjustment and TV mount (per hour) | 1.5 | $55.00 | $82.50 |

Nevada does not tax handyman labor. Materials are billed at receipt cost with tax already included at purchase; copies of receipts available on request.
A handyman invoice usually covers a mix of small jobs done in one visit, so the challenge isn't pricing any one task, it's making the bill readable. Most handymen work off a half-day or full-day minimum plus an hourly rate for anything longer, with materials billed at cost from the receipt. The invoice should show the customer what got done, not just the hours.
What should a handyman invoice include?
- Your name or business name and contact details
- The customer's address, since jobs are done on site
- The minimum charge (half-day or hourly) and what it covers
- A plain list of what was actually done, even if it's not separately priced
- Materials, billed at receipt cost, with receipts attached or available
- Anything you didn't get to and are carrying over to a follow-up visit
How to create a handyman invoice
- 1Add your business details. Your name, address, contact details and tax number if you are registered.
- 2Add the client. Their name and billing address. Save them to reuse next time.
- 3List the work. Break the job into clear line items the way a handyman bills (see below).
- 4Add tax. Apply your tax rate, or leave it at zero if you are not registered.
- 5Set payment terms and a due date. State when payment is due and how the client can pay.
- 6Download or send. Export a clean PDF, or email it to the client. No signup, no watermark.
How do you itemise a handyman invoice?
Lead with the time charge, half-day minimum or hourly rate, since that's what most of the bill is. List the individual small jobs underneath even if they don't carry their own price, customers want to see what the time bought. Keep materials as a separate passthrough line at receipt cost rather than marking them up, most handymen don't hold a reseller account and marking up store-bought parts invites questions.
What do handymans typically charge?
| Region | Typical billing |
|---|---|
| United States (national average) | $60 to $95 per hour, half-day minimum $180 to $260 |
| United Kingdom | £25 to £45 per hour, half-day minimum £120 to £180 |
| Australia | A$55 to A$85 per hour, call-out A$80 to A$120 |
| Canada | C$55 to C$80 per hour, half-day minimum C$220 to C$300 |
Indicative ranges for guidance. Your rate depends on experience, location and the job.
Do handymans charge tax on invoices?
Nevada does not charge sales tax on labor, so a handyman's time is untaxed. Materials are a different story, if you buy hardware and hand the cost straight to the customer at what you paid, you're passing through tax you already paid rather than reselling, and most handymen without a reseller permit operate this way. Rules vary by state though, some tax handyman labor as part of a taxable service bundle, so check your own state's treatment of repair labor before assuming it's exempt.
What payment terms should a handyman use?
Payment on completion is standard for one-off jobs. For anything over a few hours, some handymen ask for a deposit to cover materials before the job starts, and most expect payment the same day the work is finished, by card, check or a payment app.
Frequently asked questions
How do I bill for a job that took less time than the minimum?+
Charge the minimum anyway and say so on the invoice. The half-day minimum covers your travel and the fact that you turned down other work to hold the slot, regardless of how quickly the job went.
Should I mark up materials?+
Most handymen don't, and it's simpler not to. Charge exactly what the receipt says and attach it. If a customer wants you to source something specialized, that's the case where a small markup for your time sourcing it is fair.
What if I find more work once I'm there?+
Call it before you do it, get a yes, then add it to the invoice as its own line so the customer can see it wasn't part of the original quote.
