| Description | Qty | Rate | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| Old tile and adhesive removal (per m2) | 14 | A$35.00 | A$490.00 |
| Waterproofing membrane, floor and shower recess (per m2) | 6 | A$55.00 | A$330.00 |
| Floor and wall tiling, supply and fix (per m2) | 14 | A$95.00 | A$1,330.00 |
| Grout and silicone sealing, all joints | 1 | A$240.00 | A$240.00 |
GST of 10 percent is included above, ABN 54 118 227 916. Waterproofing is installed to AS 3740 and carries a 7 year warranty.
A tiling invoice is usually priced per square metre because that's how the trade quotes and how tile itself is bought. A bathroom job almost always has three different rates on it, removal of the old tile, waterproofing, and the new tiling, since each stage takes different time and different materials.
What should a tiler invoice include?
- Your business name, ABN and contact details
- The property address and which room or area was tiled
- Square metres for removal, waterproofing and new tiling as separate lines if the rates differ
- Whether tiles were supplied by you or by the customer
- Grout, silicone and finishing work
- The waterproofing standard used and its warranty period
How to create a tiler invoice
- 1Add your business details. Your name, address, contact details and tax number if you are registered.
- 2Add the client. Their name and billing address. Save them to reuse next time.
- 3List the work. Break the job into clear line items the way a tiler bills (see below).
- 4Add tax. Apply your tax rate (this example uses 10%).
- 5Set payment terms and a due date. State when payment is due and how the client can pay.
- 6Download or send. Export a clean PDF, or email it to the client. No signup, no watermark.
How do you itemise a tiler invoice?
Split removal, waterproofing and tiling into separate per square metre lines, since each has its own rate and customers often want to see the waterproofing costed on its own for warranty reasons. If tiles are supplied by the customer, say so on the invoice, it explains why the material cost isn't on there. Grout and silicone can be one flat line rather than priced per metre, it's a small enough part of the job that itemising it further doesn't help anyone.
What do tilers typically charge?
| Region | Typical billing |
|---|---|
| Australia | A$70 to A$120 per m2 supply and fix, waterproofing A$45 to A$65 per m2 |
| United States | $8 to $15 per sq ft installed, tile cost extra |
| United Kingdom | £35 to £60 per m2 labour only |
| New Zealand | NZ$75 to NZ$130 per m2 supply and fix |
Indicative ranges for guidance. Your rate depends on experience, location and the job.
Do tilers charge tax on invoices?
Australian GST is 10 percent and gets included in the total rather than added as a surprise at the end, most tilers quote GST-inclusive prices. You need an ABN on every invoice, and you must register for GST once turnover passes A$75,000, below that registration is optional but the ABN still needs to be there. Waterproofing work has its own compliance standard, AS 3740, worth a mention on the invoice since it's often what a warranty claim gets checked against.
What payment terms should a tiler use?
A deposit at the start of the job, often a third to half the total, is standard for tiling given the tile cost is usually paid upfront. The balance is due on completion, once the customer has seen the finished job and the grout has cured enough to check for issues.
Frequently asked questions
Why is waterproofing priced separately from the tiling?+
Because it's a different trade skill with its own compliance standard and its own warranty period, usually longer than the warranty on the tiling itself. Keeping it as its own line means a waterproofing claim years later doesn't get tangled up with the cost of the tiles.
Do I charge GST if I'm under the $75,000 threshold?+
Not unless you've registered voluntarily. Below the threshold, registration is your choice, and if you're not registered, GST shouldn't appear on the invoice at all.
What happens if the customer's tiles don't cover the area once I've measured it properly?+
Note the shortfall on the invoice and bill the extra tiles at cost if you're the one sourcing the top-up, or list it as a delay if the customer needs to order more themselves.
