Free rent receipt template (PDF)
A rent receipt confirms that a tenant has paid their rent. Landlords issue one after each payment; tenants keep them as proof. This free template produces a clean, printable PDF with every field a valid rent receipt needs — in about 30 seconds.
Quick answer: use the generator, change the title to "Rent Receipt", and fill in the tenant, property, amount and rent period. Add "Paid in full" and the payment date.
What a rent receipt must include
- The words "Rent Receipt"
- Tenant's name
- Property address the rent is for
- Amount paid (in figures, and words for high-value payments)
- Rent period covered (e.g. 1–31 July 2026)
- Date payment was received and the method (bank transfer, card, cash)
- Landlord's or agent's name and signature
- A unique receipt number for record-keeping
Receipt vs invoice — what's the difference?
An invoice requests payment before it's made; a receipt confirms payment already received. For rent, you'd issue a receipt after the tenant pays. If you need to request rent first, create an invoice instead, then a receipt once it's paid.
Why tenants need rent receipts
- Proof of payment in any dispute over unpaid rent
- Tax deductions where rent is deductible (e.g. home office, some regions)
- Records for budgeting, references and benefit claims
- Evidence of a consistent payment history when renting again
