What to itemise

  • The service and property (e.g. "Standard clean — 3-bed house, 12 Elm St")
  • Hours or number of visits, and the rate
  • Specific tasks if the client wants detail (kitchen, bathrooms, floors, windows)
  • Supplies or materials used, if you charge for them
  • Travel time or call-out fee, if applicable
  • Subtotal, any tax, and the total due
  • Payment details and terms (many cleaners use "due on receipt" or Net 7)

Do cleaners charge VAT or tax?

It depends on your turnover and country. In the UK you register for VAT once turnover passes the threshold; in Ireland cleaning services fall under the 13.5% reduced VAT rate once you're over the services threshold. If you're below the threshold or not registered, simply set tax to 0% — the generator handles either case. See the VAT invoice guide.

Recurring cleaning contracts

For weekly or monthly contracts, invoice a fixed amount per period (e.g. "Office cleaning — July 2026, 4 visits"). Keep invoice numbers sequential and dates consistent so clients can reconcile easily. Recurring auto-invoicing is a planned Pro feature.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I invoice a one-off cleaning job?
Add a single line describing the clean and the property, with the flat fee or hours × rate, then download the PDF. Add any supplies or call-out fee as separate lines.
Should a cleaning invoice include VAT?
Only if you're VAT-registered. In Ireland cleaning is the 13.5% reduced rate; in the UK you register once over the threshold. Otherwise set tax to 0%.
How do I bill a recurring cleaning contract?
Invoice a fixed amount per period (e.g. monthly) with the number of visits noted. Keep numbers sequential; recurring auto-invoicing is coming to Pro.
Can I itemise cleaning tasks?
Yes — add a line per task (kitchen, bathrooms, floors, windows) if the client wants the detail, or keep it to a single service line.
What payment terms do cleaners use?
"Due on receipt" or Net 7 are common for domestic work; Net 14–30 for commercial contracts. Always state the due date on the invoice.
